The Styling Canvas

I often compare property styling to painting a picture, that ultimately tells the best story of your property. A room is like a canvas – but when it’s half painted, faded, dirty and torn, it doesn’t matter how expensive your paints are or how skilfully they’re applied, the overall finish of your otherwise beautiful picture will still be a bit tatty!

BEFORE

Here at EHG Home we recognise the importance of preparing the ‘canvas’ of your property on which to ‘paint’ our stunning interior styling. So before bringing in the furniture and accessories, we stop to consider how best to achieve this, cost effectively and time efficiently. Enter our Home Care Servicesteam! Together, we will give you a ‘home consultation’ and assess every area in your home, from flooring and paintwork, to lighting and clutter, and give an objective opinion on the work that needs to be done prior to staging your property and putting it on the market. 

AFTER THE HOME CARE TEAM

Once we have our ‘to do’ list in place, our experienced house maintenance team of handymen, carpenters, roofers, painters, electricians and plumbers will step in and start the ‘home edit” so whatever the problem, we have someone on hand to fix it.  Whilst you may have become accustomed to that loose door handle, wobbly banister or peeling paintwork, viewers are critical and they certainly won’t be so forgiving. Selling or renting a property is all about creating that winning first impression;  a number of small things falling into disrepair could cause a potential buyer to assume that more sinister and costly problems might lurk beneath the surface.

BEFORE

Once inside, viewers need to be able to imagine themselves living in a property in order to fall in love with it, but this can be challenging when faced with someone else’s clutter. At EHG Home our focus is decluttering responsibly, so having helped you sort the items no longer needed, unwanted furniture will be sent to SHELTER and smaller items, where possible, will be donated on. 

AFRER THE HOME CARE TEAM

Step outside - if your curb appeal isn’t up to scratch, you may be in danger of putting off potential buyers before they’ve even set foot in the door. Sometimes people will drive by a property before arranging a viewing and if they don’t like what they see, they’ll just keep driving. Broken gutters and cracket paving stones give the impression of neglect – our Home Care Services team will whip your outdoor space into shape in no time.

GARDEN STAGING AND STYLING

Once the floorspace is clearer, you can better assess its general wear and tear - and make no mistake, flooring matters! It can be as much of a turn off as bad smells or noisy neighbours, with viewers considering replacement flooring to be an expensive outlay they may not have budgeted for. Consistency is key rather than a myriad of different finishes, with hardwood or laminate flooring preferable in all living spaces. Whilst you can get away with carpet in a bedroom, stained and dirty carpet anywhere is an absolute no-no. Our Home Care Services will explore low impact, cost effective fixes or replacements throughout your home where necessary.

If a lick of paint is required, EHG Home will address this with the environment in mind – Dulux Trade have created a product made from 35% recycled paint content that would otherwise have been destined for landfill and creates a lovely finish – win win! 

BEFORE

With your general decoration now complete, it’s vital to get the lighting right to show your property off at its best. Not only does lighting impact practically on the functionality of the space, it’s important because it can dictate the mood and atmosphere of a room, just like a photograph. Let us sort that broken strip light under the kitchen cabinets and change those awkward bulbs you can never reach - we like to use low impact halogen bulbs wherever possible.
